AIG Testing Nominations
Parents/guardians may nominate their child for AIG testing during a nomination window. The last day to submit a nomination for the Fall semester will be September 17. A second nomination window will be available in the Spring semester. A written nomination is required and may be sent via email to Dawn Farmer at firstname.lastname@example.org
Once a nomination is received, data is collected which includes EOG performance, teacher and parent observational checklists, benchmark scores, student work samples and student grades. This information is shared with our School Based Committee for Gifted Education (SBCGE) who makes the decision on whether to refer for evaluation. Both the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (IOWA) are group administered to those students who are referred for evaluation. The SBCGE reviews all test scores in conjunction with previously collected data and determines if (a) the student qualifies for AIG services (b) the student does not qualify for AIG services or (c) additional individual testing is required to determine eligibility.
Please note that this process takes a semester to complete. Students who qualify will begin services at the start of the next semester.
The Wake County Public Schools System is excited to announce their first Parent Academy Catalog. The catalog contains a series of free skill-building classes, workshops, and educational events aimed at helping families learn to engage with the school system and contribute positively to their child’s academic and social success.
The Parent Academy is a Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) initiative designed to strengthen the relationship between parents/guardians and schools and to help parents navigate the school system. Research shows that students achieve more when parents are involved in their child’s education.
This is a partnership with a diverse team of WCPSS educators and local community agencies, organizations, businesses, schools, and faith-based institutions.
