CLASS RULES

This needs to be looked at very carefully so you are aware of the expectations for participation in instrumental music.

1. Follow all school rules.
2. Be in class on time.
3. Have instruments, music, and pencil at all rehearsals.
4. Get set up quickly and quietly.
5. Wait to warm up together.
6. Don't play between pieces. While the director is working with another section, sit quietly and study your part.
7. Stop playing as soon as the director stops conducting.
8. Come to class well prepared.
9. Respect the property of others.

  • NEVER use another's instrument/ reeds, open their case, or move it in the storage room
  • Don't touch another person's property without their permission
  • Respect the room equipment (don't play with or lean on the music stands or put feet on chairs). Stands are NEVER to be used as desks
  • NEVER touch the school's drum equipment without permission from the director
10. Percussion equipment must be covered (timpani) and all accessories put in proper place before leaving class. (Percussion players do this while others are putting their instruments away.)

GUM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IN CLASS. THIS IS VERY BAD FOR THE INSTRUMENTS

Concert Etiquette:
Following is a list of concert expectations. Please read this section carefully. Proper concert etiquette will be required and expected for all performances.

1. Please remove all hats and turn off all cell phones, pagers, crying babies, etc.
2. No food or drink is permissible in the gym or theater.
3. Please refrain from taking flash photography during the performance.
4. If you should arrive late, please enter between selections and either sit or stand in the back of the performance area.
5. Please refrain from talking and/or rattling paper during the performance. Turn pages quietly when referring to the program.
6. Carefully close the door quietly when entering and exiting the gym or theater and remain seated for the entire performance. If you must exit due to coughing, illness, crying babies, etc., please do so quietly and preferably between selections.
7. Enjoy and appreciate what the performers are sharing and have learned throughout the year. Applaud enthusiastically to show your support after each selection and at the conclusion of the performance.
8. After the performance, speak words of support and encouragement to as many of the student musicians as possible.
