Bookin' with the Pack!
October 2008

HRMS is joining the Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes from NC State  again this year with the “Booking with the Pack” literacy program.  Football, baseball, and wrestling athletes along with two representatives visited the 7th grade Wolverines, Bears, and Razorbacks on 10/15 sharing their academic experiences leading up to college and what is necessary to balance academics with athletics to succeed.

Just a few student quotes:

"I learned that you have to take pride in your education in order to be fully committed to your sport and be eligible to participate.”

“I learned a lot about how academics are more important than athletics because only 2% of the athletes attending college or universities get to go to the pros, but those that don’t will at least have their degree and be able to get a job.”

“You showed me a new side to why grades and everything we do in school is important.”

“I feel that you really got the point across that without good grades, you won’t go far in life.”

“You taught us that physically fit isn’t the only way to be on a sports team.   We also need to be academically fit.”

“I learned that it is easier to get an academic scholarship than an athletic scholarship because there are more available.”

“Booking with the Pack is awesome because I love to read books.  Soon it will help others become more interested in reading.”

ARE YOU “BOOKING WITH THE PACK”?  You can earn tickets to attend the Lady Wolfpack basketball game against Florida State on Sunday, 12/7.  Your name will be announced at half-time and you will receive a certificate for reading ten books in ten weeks.   Go on!  Grab a book and have a ball!
