The Results are as follows:
Problem Solving:
OVERVIEW
Participants use their skills in problem solving to develop
a finite solution to a stated problem given on site. Participants work as a
team to provide the best solution, which is measured objectively.
CHALLENGE
Work
effectively as a team to manipulate and process materials using only tools
designated. An objective measurement is used to determine the best solution to
the given problem.

Challenging Technology Issues:
OVERVIEW
Team
members work together to present opposing views of a
current technology issue. The opposing views might include various approaches
to the issue (historical, societal, moral, financial, etc.), possible
solutions, related topics, etc.
CHALLENGE
Prepare
and deliver an extemporaneous oral presentation, with team members explaining
opposing views of a current technology issue that has been selected from a
choice of three (3) issues that are provided on-site.

Structural Challenge:
OVERVIEW
Teams of Two Participants use basic engineering
techniques to evaluate designs they have modeled and tested. Each team
researches, designs, and tests their models to determine superior engineering.
CHALLENGE
Research, model, and test a structure designed
to hold the greatest load. Each team is given the selected height to be tested
and must plan and then construct a model using the supplied materials within
two and one-half (2½) hours. The model is submitted for destructive testing.

Even though two students designed and built CO2 Dragster
Race Cars for the "Dragster Design Challenge" and did not win a
trophy, it is noteworthy to mention that Thomas Carey's design and car did
place 4th!
The five students listed above have spent many, many
hours working and preparing after school for this Competitive Events
Conference. When you see these students in the hallways and classrooms, please
acknowledge there hard work and success. These students have demonstrated
self-motivation and a commitment to learning that is equaled by few.
Thomas, Nathaniel, Isaac, Taylor, Tyler, and Hannah
Bledsoe will compete in Greensboro at the North Carolina Department of
Instruction's TSA State Competitive Events Conference, March 22nd and 23rd.
First place winners will compete from June 28 - July 2, 2009 at the
National TSA Conference in
