Course Description and Outline
Business Computer Technology is a semester long course (18 weeks) and is designed
to develop higher levels of computer use and skills.
Completing and passing 18 weeks of keyboarding is a prerequisite for this course. In this course we will continue to develop touch typing skills learned in Keyboarding as well as improve speed and accuracy.
Various software programs will be used throughout the course to teach the topics listed in the course outline. Some of these programs will include Microsoft

Student Portfolios
Because of the “hands on” nature of this course, traditional methods
of teaching and grading will not be used extensively in regards to the portfolio
assignments. Your child will be actively involved in his/her learning and will
know ahead of time what they must achieve based on the rubric provided for
each activity. Works, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Micro Type
Pro.
This course will also help prepare students for the computer skills test that all students are required to take during their eight-grade year. This test is vital due to graduation requirements and mandates that in order to receive a NC high school diploma, students must pass the Computer Skills Test. In conjunction with Keyboarding, the overall goal of these two curriculums and the Computer Skills Test is students will become independent users of technology for school and personal needs.
As the course progresses, your child will complete assignments for each unit
that will create a course portfolio. This portfolio will be evidence of curriculum
objectives completed and mastered in this course.

Emphasis will also be placed on organization, following oral and written directions, independent work habits, and group projects.
