Course Description and Outline

Keyboarding Technology is a semester long course (18 weeks) and is designed to develop touch-typing skills and extensive word processing skills.

Completing and passing 18 weeks of Keyboarding will allow your child to master the alphabet keys; numeric & symbol keys; and the numeric keypad

Various software programs will be used throughout the course to teach the topics listed in the course outline. Some of these programs will include Microsoft Office, MicroType Pro, Quizlab, and NCWISEOWL.

This course will also help prepare students for the

Computer Skills Test that all students are required to take during their eighth grade year. This test is vital due to graduation requirements and mandates that in order to receive a NC high school diploma, students must pass the Computer Skills Test. In conjunction with Keyboarding, it is highly recommend that students enroll in the Business Technology, Level I course. The overall goal of these two curriculums and the Computer Skills Test is students will become independent users of technology for school and personal needs

Emphasis will also be placed on organization, following oral and written directions, independent work habits, and cooperative learning.
