Academic Incentives Information ...

November 2008 -- Thanks to the hard work of the Academic Incentives Committee, we were able to recognize positive outcomes, decisions, and behaviors by students at the end of the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter, the PTA conducted a drawing to reward students for these positive choices.

Students were entered into the drawing as follows:

  • Students received two entry "tickets" for each A they earned and one "ticket" for each B.
  • Students received two tickets for perfect attendance and one for having missed only one day of school.
  • Also, each teacher was given seven (7) tickets to distribute as they saw fit to reward students making great effort, showing positive growth, and/or showing positive decision making and improvement.

We are thrilled to report that approximately 1,200 students - nearly the entire student body - were entered into this drawing based on these positive behaviors!! We commend all students for their hard work and also commend parents for providing the support system to make this possible.

While individual prizes were given out to students in each grade level that included an iPod Nano, HRMS sweat shirts and t-shirts, gift cards, and Holly Ridge back packs, ALL students who qualified to enter the drawing were also given a free ice cream during lunch last week.

Kudos to all students!!

We constantly seek ways to improve!! Our goal has been to reward positive behaviors and achievements. We've attempted to do that by having some excitement for students, by rewarding all, and by limiting the amount of class time missed to enact the program. If you have suggestions on improvements for the next time, please email Mr. Pittman at bpittman@wcpss.net.
